These six two bed terraced houses emanated from a planning gain which formed part of a larger development of 32 homes for Cyden Homes.

 

They are built on land within Flood Zone 3 (the highest risk category). This is typical for the area, meaning a number of measures are carried out in order to mitigate flood risk:

 

  • Ground floor levels raised by 1m from existing ground level
  • Brackets for demountable barriers fitted to all ground floor entrances
  • Flood resilient construction methods used, such as raising the level of wiring/sockets, accessible roof spaces and ensuring access to all spaces to allow for drying and cleaning.

 

In terms of Boston Mayflower’s wider programme, they are looking to develop more homes in Boston, East Lindsey and South Holland. A number of these schemes have flood risk issues, so there will be a need to raise finished floor levels above 1m standard (some higher than this) and often a requirement for piled foundations as opposed to more traditional methods.

 

Pitch provided Project Management and Clerk of Works services. To help with increased build costs, Pitch successfully secured £450,000 Flood Risk mitigation funding from the Greater Lincolnshire Local Enterprise for two of Boston Mayflower’s other schemes.
